Equine mortality coverage

For the full range of equine breeds and uses.

Our standard mortality policies cover a wide range of equine breeds and disciplines, from racing thoroughbreds to working ranch horses. Every standard policy includes superior built in benefits at no additional premium.

Included as standard

Four benefits you do not pay extra for.

01 Emergency colic surgery extension

02 Twelve month extension clause
Extends the period of insurance in the circumstances set out in the clause, without a separate endorsement.
03 Theft related benefits
Limited theft, malicious castration or spaying following theft, and humane destruction following theft.
04 Flexible binding
Bind from fall of hammer at public sale, or upon a statement of health or veterinary certificate.

Binding and veterinary requirements

Two ways to get a horse on cover.

Cover can be bound from the fall of the hammer at a public sale, or on a statement of health or veterinary certificate. Both forms sit in the document library alongside the mortality application.

Theft and unlawful removal

Three benefits attach to theft.

The standard form carries limited theft, malicious castration or spaying following theft, and humane destruction following theft. All three are included at no additional premium.

The limits and conditions that apply to each are set out in the equine mortality policy wording rather than summarised here.

Humane destruction

Call before the decision is made.

Humane destruction following theft is included in the standard form. The circumstances in which humane destruction is covered, and the veterinary certification required, are governed by the policy wording.

If that decision is in front of you on an insured horse, call the Dallas office first. We will tell you what the policy requires.

Extending beyond mortality

Major medical, surgical, loss of use, stallion infertility, and international transit.

Most accredited agents combine two or three options to build the protection their clients actually need.
